Laser vs. Traditional Liposuction
The laser liquefies fat within the cells, and the emulsified fat is then absorbed by the lymphatic system. Doctors recommend that each patient undergo three treatment sessions per week for two weeks to achieve optimal results. During each session, the laser is aimed at target areas for 20 minutes, then the patient is rolled over and the other side is treated for 20 minutes. The patient does not feel any pain or heat during the session, and you can immediately return to normal activities afterwards. Additionally, there is no bruising or swelling associated with laser liposuction.
During the traditional liposuction procedure, the patient is put under general or local anesthesia and an incision is made in the area to be treated. A suctioning device called a cannula is then inserted into the incision and used to remove entire fat cells from the body. After fat is removed, the incision is closed and the patient is sent home to recover. The traditional liposuction procedure does cause some bruising and swelling and patients typically take a few days to rest following surgery.
