Rhinoplasty, more commonly known as a ‘nose job’, is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures. Although rhinoplasty is usually done for cosmetic reasons, it can also correct structural defects that cause breathing problems.

What can be accomplished through rhinoplasty?

• Increasing or decreasing the size of the nose

• Altering the tip or bridge of the nose

• Narrowing or changing the shape of the nostrils

• Structural corrections to assist in more regular breathing

• Changing the angle between the nose and upper lip

• Reshaping the tip

Rhinoplasty can make a profound difference in the balance of facial features and in a person’s self-esteem.

Am I a Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

Candidates for rhinoplasty should be at least in their mid teens – no younger than 14 –16. The reason is that the nasal bone must have time to mature and the nose shape must be stable, that is, the nose is not going to change shape any further as the child grows.

As with all cosmetic surgery, realistic expectations are very important. No matter how much you would like to look like a popular Hollywood icon, it may not be possible. So consult with your cosmetic surgeon and be aware of what changes can really be accomplished.

Some of the reasons individuals seek rhinoplasty include:

• Nose appears too large

• Nasal bridge bump is visible in profile

• Nose appears too wide

• Nasal tip is drooped or plunged

• Nose tip is thickened or enlarged

• Nostrils are excessively flared

• Nose is off-center or crooked

• Nose is asymmetrical from previous injury

How Much Does Rhinoplasty Cost?

Costs vary greatly, depending on each individual procedure, the patient’s physiology and expected goals. Pricing also varies throughout the country. The cost of a rhinoplasty in LA will be different from that in a midwest location, for example.

Be sure to ask what other fees are covered and what is billed separately. For example, what about anesthesia and surgical costs? Ask about financing options, as your cosmetic surgeon should have several options available.

Possible Complications of Rhinoplasty

As with all surgery, bleeding, infection, and anesthesia or medication reactions are possible, though very rare. Risks specific to rhinoplasty can include:

• Burst blood vessels

• Red spots and small scars on the underside of the nose

• Revisionary second procedures required to remove or correct tissue

What Can I Expect From My Rhinoplasty?

Most rhinoplasty patients are very satisfied with the results of their nose surgery. Choosing a highly qualified, board certified cosmetic surgeon contributes to a successful outcome.

What is most rewarding about rhinoplasty is that very small changes in the shape and structure of the nose can bring very big rewards. Following your surgeon’s pre- and post- surgical instructions goes a long way towards a successful outcome.

What Happens If I Get a “Bad” Nose Job?

Sometimes mistakes are made or people are very dissatisfied with the results of their rhinoplasty and want to ‘undo’ what has been done. In this case, they would seek a procedure called ‘revision rhinoplasty’. Although healing of the first procedure must take place before any revisions can be done, further improvements or adjustments to the shape and structure of the nose can be managed with revision rhinoplasty.

Non Surgical Nose Jobs

The so called ‘non-surgical nose job’ begins with the injection of a facial filler, the type of which is determined by your surgeon during your initial consultation, after a discussion of your medical history and desired outcome. Just as facial fillers are used to fill out wrinkles, they can also fill out areas of the nose in an effort to correct what you might view as minor deformities. Certainly this procedure is somewhat limited in comparison with a surgical nose job, but for some patients, it is not only more affordable, but can be completed quickly with almost no downtime, and can achieve remarkable results in certain cases.

It is highly important to choose a qualified, board certified cosmetic surgeon. After all, your nose is central to your face so you want your surgery to go perfectly and provide the desired outcome.

In folklore, anime, and velvet paintings, wide eyes are the symbol of youth, for men and women. They are both literally and figuratively what give the young their fresh and honest view of the world. If we want to look young, both to ourselves and to others, the eyes are the place to start.

Introduction to Blepharoplasty (Eyelid surgery)

Blepharoplasty, sometimes called an eyelid lift, is a delicate surgery that rejuvenates the appearance of skin and muscles around the eyes and can be performed on both the upper and the lower eyelids. It is used to correct:

· Sagging eyelids

· Drooping eyelids

· Narrowed eyes

· Bags under the eyes

· Tired appearance

· Sight obstruction

Because our eyes are a large part of our day-to-day interaction with others, some of these changes are more than simply cosmetic. For example, friends and loved ones might mistake our perennially tired appearance for boredom or loss of commitment to a relationship. Salespeople and brokers might find the sagging of their eyelids causes customers to find them less trustworthy. In these cases, looking better is not merely superficial it is at the heart of our livelihood and our lives.

How Blepharoplasty Works

There are two types of eyelid surgery: upper lid and lower lid. Consulting with an experienced plastic surgeon will help you determine which ones might be appropriate for you.

In Upper lid surgery, the surgeon makes a tiny incision along the crease of the upper eyelid to provide access. The surgeon removes excess fat and/or skin that is giving the eye a puffed appearance. Then the surgeon tightens the skin and seals the incision carefully with very fine sutures.

There are two types of lower lid blepharoplasty. Most often the surgeon will make an incision just below the lash line of the lower eyelid. Then, as in the upper eyelid surgery, the surgeon uses this incision to eliminate puffiness or bagginess by removing fatty tissue and/or skin and tightening the skin and muscles of the lower lid. The surgeon may opt for what is called a transconjunctival blepharoplasty (quite the mouthful), if you don’t need to have the skin or muscles of the lower lid trimmed. In this procedure, the incision is actually made inside the lower eyelid, so that any scarring from the procedure is completely invisible.

A Quick Procedure

Blepharoplasty, although a long word, is a short procedure, taking one to two hours to complete. The fine skin around the eyes and the tiny incisions used also make for a very quick recovery time. Most patients are able to get back to non-strenuous activity in a day or two, although it’s best to put aside unnecessary activities for maybe a week. The sutures used dissolve on their own, so there’s no need to go in to the doctor to have them removed. All in all, a relatively easy procedure, considering what it can do for you!

And because it’s a tightly targeted procedure, it can be combined with any number of surgical and non-surgical treatments such as a brow lift, face lift, the injection of filler materials or treatments.

After the shocking death of Donda West, 58, following Los Angeles liposuction, tummy tuck, and breast reduction procedures lawmakers not only in California, but all over the U.S. and elsewhere, are pushing for new laws which may prevent accidental deaths in such Los Angeles plastic surgery procedures. One such law, known as SB 1454, would require outpatient facilities to be inspected at least once every three years.

Many facilities in which Los Angeles cosmetic surgeons practice are not up to standards. They must be accredited by a state-recognized agency, but current California laws do not require regular inspections.

Assemblywoman Wilmer Amina Carter said Donda West’s niece asked her to introduce a bill requiring a health check before a person chooses to have cosmetic surgery. She introduced the “Donda West Law” in February.

Donda West had been sent home following her 51/2-hour surgery. A coroner’s autopsy report found that West most likely died of heart disease coupled with complications after plastic surgery. But, it said the exact cause of death couldn’t be known.

Dr. Jan Adams, who operated on West, has denied any wrongdoing.

Elsewhere, new laws are being formed which educate patients about their doctor’s credentials, etc. Officials cannot stress enough the importance of choosing the right doctor and facility for your Los Angeles cosmetic surgery procedures.

Because of this, the positive impact of your surgery may not be evident for several days or even several weeks. By understanding exactly how your recovery is expected to proceed, you will be better able to cope with this process. With the aging process, our metabolism changes dramatically. If a regimented exercise and healthy lifestyle is not followed, we acquire fat in unwanted places. Also called lipoplasty, liposuction removes deposits of excess fat from specific areas of the body including the face, neck, arms, back, abdominal wall, and thighs through small incisions. It can remove a double chin, slim the tummy, hips and thighs, as well as shape the arms, calves and ankles. Some plastic surgeons sculpt the fat beneath the skin to achieve a more aesthetic result. Some sculpt a “six-pack” in the male abdominal wall corresponding to the inscriptions of the abdominal muscles.

In females, surgeons sculpt an oval “donut” around the umbilicus (belly button), and creates a subtle depression at the midline of the abdomen to develop a more youthful abdomen. To sculpt the body versus simply removing fat is the new challenge of liposuction.

Other technical novelties which plastic surgeons utilize include ultrasonic-assisted liposuction (UAL) and power-assisted liposuction. These new liposuction instruments make the surgical removal of fat much more efficient. With great attention to detail and new techniques, achieving a beautiful body through liposculpture has become an achievable goal.

The procedure is performed by first injecting a special fluid containing anesthetic medication into the fatty tissue. A special tumescent fluid is injected into the areas to be aspirated in order to plump-up the fat while constricting the blood vessels. The fat is thereby removed more effectively with minimal blood loss. Small 1/8 to 1/4 inch incisions are made in hidden areas to introduce the liposuction cannulae (a metal instrument with a hole at the core used to aspirate fat).

The power-assisted liposuction device is then utilized to aspirate and sculpt your fat in a calculated manner. The fat is not simply suctioned out with a large diameter cannulae, instead it is sculpted with a fine diameter cannulae for increased control. Large portions of fat are never suctioned out in one maneuver. During liposculpture procedures, the fat is removed in small morsels in order to develop a beautiful shape to your body instead of just making your body smaller. The small incisions are closed at the end of the procedure to avoid unnecessary drainage of fluids out of your body. After the procedure a pressure garment is applied to decrease swelling.

After your liposculpture procedure, you should expect to be sleepy but comfortable. The day of your surgery, you should drink plenty of fluids, but limit any solid food as it may give you an upset stomach.

The day following your procedure, your plastic surgeon will encourage you to walk around your house with assistance. Do not shower or bathe for 2 days after your procedure. Sponge baths of other areas are allowed as long as your incisions remain clean and dry. You can advance your diet to regular food. If you notice you become uncomfortable after eating solid food, slow down and advance your diet more gently. You may want to begin with soft foods such as cereal and soft fruits before you try steak or chicken.

During the first week after surgery, you should walk increasingly more every day. Do not lie in bed for prolonged periods as it may cause you to develop blood clots in your legs, an easily preventable but serious complication. Your sutures will be removed during this week.

Continue to wear your pressure garment for the first 6-8 weeks. Massages during this time will held reabsorb any swelling, while improving any skin irregularities which may result. Before you receive a liposuction procedure, your plastic surgeon will carefully outline the areas of bulging fat that are to be suctioned. Your surgeon will then draw a detailed line of your contour in order to further define the shape and contour characteristics of the fat deposits. Cosmetic surgeons will use the “tumescent technique” in which there will be a large amount of fluid initially placed to swell the area. This technique will allow for fat to be removed in a very smooth, safe, and symmetrical manner. The fluid is able to help loosen the fat while providing a local anesthesia for operative and immediate post-operative discomfort. It will also be able to provide epinephrine which is capable of decreasing bleeding.

In a tumescent lipoplasty, small incisions will be created and small suctions tubes will be inserted to the proper depth of the fat deposit. This tube, or cannula will then be passed back and forth until an appropriate amount of fat has been removed. The cannula will then be moved over about half of an inch, and again several passes will be made until fat is removed. The entire bulging area will be treated in this fashion. The cosmetic surgeon will carefully remove small amounts at a time, constantly checking the contour and thickness of the fat as this suctioning proceeds.

After this suctioning is completed, the opposite side will be treated the same way. Your cosmetic surgeon will compare the two sides and adjust the contours to match. After this, the incisions will be carefully closed, and an elastic dressing or garment will be placed to put a gentle pressure on the skin. This will prevent excess fluid from accumulating in the area which has been suctioned. All of the incisions are carefully closed with stitches placed beneath the skin. This will make it so that there is no chance of “railroad” looking scars, but rather very fine line scars will appear. Immediately, you will be able to bathe or shower. None of these sutures will need to be removed, they will simply just dissolve.

Following a liposuction, many patients will have very little pain, but rather they will experience such things as tightness, soreness, or fullness. To minimize to collection of swelling and fluid in the areas treated, your cosmetic surgeon will request that you wear an elastic garment which will be provided for two weeks or more post-surgery. The amount of time will depend on the extent of your procedure. The treated areas will likely feel sore for up to 72 hours, and the soreness will resolve over the next two to three days. You will likely be prescribed medication by your cosmetic surgeon. Bruising may develop, but will subside with time.

There is more harm caused to an overweight person than just pride as many serious medical conditions are a result of one being overweight. Weight is not just a simple health problem and an easy weight loss treatment that works 100 percent of the time doesn’t exist. Surprisingly, there are methods that provide a high degree of success which We’ll breifly discuss below;

1. Natural Weight Loss

The principle of natural weight loss is not consuming more calories than your body uses. A reasonable approach to natural weight loss is to stick to a diet that is high in complex carbohydrates and fibre, moderate in protein, and low in fat. A meal such as this would be something like a baked potato (complex carbohydrate), the fiber is vegetables and protein is a lean cut of meat.To maintain a healthy lifestyle, you should also throw in some lite physical activity such as a walk/jog in the park or a little gym work once or twice a week. This also helps you feel more energetic and helps increase the metabolism rate.

2. Weight Loss Drugs

There are many overweight people who are impatient and want instant results so they resort to taking weight loss drugs instead of living a healthy lifestyle.These drugs work in a variety of ways but mainly they try to fool the brain into thinking the stomach is full and increase the person’s metabolism.Weight control pills can be prescribed by your doctor, dietitian or purchased in a drug store and despite the advances made in the drug manufacture, there are still dangers including vomiting and stomach problems. You must check the packet carefully before you decide to use them because some of the other side effects can be even more harmful, like the possibility of a heart attack or even a stroke, with hallucinations, tremors, breathing problems and convulsions all recorded as side effects for users of these drugs.

3. Lipsuction

Liposuction or Lipoplasty as the cosmetic surgeons refer to it has become another very popular aesthetic body treatment which removes unwanted body fat. This normally works best for the thighs, bottom and stomach as it can treat this problem when some other methods fail. Two basic techniques of Liposuction used are the Tumescent and Ultrasonic techniques. The most popular of these two is the Tumescent method.

4. Green Tea

Nature seems to have a cure for everything if you can find it and with the health benefits of green tea only just being understood, it is used a great deal especially within the weight loss industry and for products which are used as antioxidants. Green tea weight loss extracts can be purchased easily in liquid and tablet form but whichever way you take it, you will burn calories, naturally.There is generally an acclimatization period of a couple of days when using this product, during which time the user may feel some stomach and bowel discomfort but it shouldn’t take too long before this vanishes. Results are normally obvious within the first week, particularly if you complete the diet with physical exercise, lots of liquids and green food.

5. Hoodia

One of the biggest discoveries in recent years to help people control their weight is the Hoodia plant and for many people this plant has great potential. Hoodia is from the cactus family and there are thirteen in all. Only one variant, the ‘Gordonii’, possesses the ability to suppress appetite. Hoodia weight loss products are all the more effective given the fact that they are completely free from side-effects. There are no unpleasant digestive problems or heart rhythm disturbances that often happen with other appetite inhibitors. This does not mean however, that you should discontinue healthy eating and drinking during the time you are taking it.

So in conclusion, regardless of what weight loss system or product you use, there can never be a substitute for living a healthy lifestyle. There is no point to weight loss if you are going to damage yourself in the process. To maintain a healthy lifestyle, eat right, drink right and excercise right. You will feel great for it.

Life is a gift given to us by the Creator that we should cherish. And being one of God’s creation, we mortal being, are characterized by imperfection and is always aspiring for physical improvement. This endless desire for perfection in the physical aspect of life is but natural for us. Some might view it as vanity but as the late Pope Pius XII would say it “if we consider physical beauty in its Christian light and we respect the condition set by our moral standards, then aesthetic enhancement is not a contraindication to the will of God, in that it restore the greatest work of creation, man”.

We continue to be amazed by the way Man was created, this admiration to the human body could be seen through the works of painters and sculpture like Leonardo Da Vinci and others. This artistic sense could also be seen in the field of Cosmetic Plastic Surgery. This is the field of medicine through which art and science merge together as most cosmetic procedure would demand an artistic touch by a Plastic Surgeon. Liposuction or better termed as Liposculpture is one of the cosmetic procedure that would demand a surgeon’s artistic touch.

While it is an accepted fact that Diet and Exercise effectively and safely remove unwanted fat deposit in our body, but there are area of the body that is difficult to address with this modality. This unwanted fat deposit could be better managed with Liposuction. However, liposuction is not a low-effort alternative to exercise and diet. It is a form of body contouring or sculpturing and not a weight loss regimen. This is a surgical procedure that removes unsightly fat deposit and contour the body. The fats under the skin are removed with the use of hollow pen like instrument that is vacuum assisted. The procedure could be used to remove unwanted fats at the abdomen, thighs, back, arms and face area. Liposuction is also used to remove excess fat in a male breast, but the procedure is more popularly use in other parts of the body.

There are several factors that limit the amount of fat that can be safely removed in one session. But the final decision will be discussed by both the patient and the surgeon. The average amount of fat that could be removed in a single session is 10 pounds or 5 kg. But there are some reports of people removing 50 pounds or 23 kg, which is exaggerated and too risky. However, there is a downside in removing too much fat. This are dents, lumpiness or contour deformity seen in the skin of patients who were over suctioned. However, the contouring possible with liposuction may cause the appearance of weight loss to be greater than the actual amount of fat removed. The procedure may be performed under general or local (“tumescent”) anesthesia. The safety of the technique relates to the amount of tissue removed, the choice of anesthetic, and the patient’s overall health.

Through the years, this section of cosmetic plastic surgery had experienced many changes in response to our desire for a perfect youthful body. Liposuction which is also known as “lipoplasty” or “suction assisted lipectomy,” underwent series of refinements. Today, a number of new techniques, including ultrasound-assisted lipectomy (UAL), the tumescent technique, and the super-wet technique, are being used by many plastic surgeons to provide selected patients with more precise results and quicker recovery times. Although no type of liposuction is a good substitute for dieting and exercise, liposuction can remove stubborn areas of fat that don’t respond to traditional weight-loss methods.

Body Jet by Eclipse Medical is a new liposuction modality that uses a stream of dilute anesthetic solution under pressure to dislodge fat cells from the surrounding connective tissue. The anesthetic solution is delivered as a spray simultaneously with controlled liposuction to remove the fat almost effortlessly. The Water-Jet Assisted Liposuction technique was developed in order to avoid problems associated with tumescent infiltration used in standard liposuction procedures. Excessive tumescent solution increases tissue swelling obscuring contour deformities and increasing the possibility of lidocaine toxicity. Body-Jet Liposuction gently washes away the fat without injuring structures such as blood vessels and nerves. Body-Jet liposuction is superior to traditional methods because of reduced operative time and less pain. With Body-Jet Liposuction less mechanical pressure is needed to remove the fat and therefore it can be performed under local anesthesia.The result is liposuction with less trauma, bruising and swelling than the traditional method. By leaving the connective tissue intact there is more even contraction of the skin leaving a smoother result. Multiple areas of the body can be treated at the same time, and after the surgery you can feel the smoothed skin, without the pain and bruises found in standard liposuction procedures. The results of the surgery are apparent within days after the procedure instead of months later as with traditional liposuction.

If there is too much skin laxity then Slim Lipo laser liposction is used to tighten the skin as a separate procedure at the time of liposuction or at a later date. By using the combination of Body-Jet and Slim Lipo the results are outstanding.

The Body Jet machine also allows for atraumatic collection of fat that is ideal for fat transfer. Histologic studies reveal a very high percentage of viable fat cells. Fat transfer is the best material to use as a volume filler for facial enhancement in order to fill in the naso-labial folds, cheeks, lips and other facial areas. Fat transfer to the buttocks can also be performed as in the “Brazilian Butt Lift”. In Europe fat transfer is the preferred method for breast augmentation. In the USA fat transfer to the breasts is still considered under investigation and is the subject of ongoing research.
